• Gandhi Sarovar

Gandhi Sarovar, also known as the Narmada Dam, is a rock and earth-fill embankment dam on the Narmada River in Gujarat, India. The dam is 3,650 m (11,980 ft) long and 156 m (512 ft) high. The dam creates a reservoir with a capacity of 14.6 billion cubic metres (965,000,000 acre⋅ft) of water. The reservoir has a live storage capacity of 12.4 billion cubic metres (4.4 trillion US gallons).

The dam provides irrigation to an area of 21,600 km2 (8,300 sq mi) in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The dam also supplies water to 4,600 MW of hydroelectric power plants. The Narmada Dam is the largest of the 30 dams built on the Narmada River.

• Phata

The town is situated on the confluence of three rivers, Mandakini, Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. Sonprayag is considered to be a holy town by Hindus and is a popular pilgrimage destination. 

The name Sonprayag literally means “conch meeting” in Hindi. Legend has it that when the conch shell of Lord Vishnu blew at the confluence of the three rivers, the rivers merged to form the River Ganges. 

Sonprayag is the starting point of the popular Char Dham pilgrimage circuit which includes the sacred shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

The best time to visit Kedarnath is between April and November. April marks the start of the summer season in the region, and the weather is generally mild and pleasant. November marks the end of the tourist season, and the weather is cooler.
